The Power to Appoint and Disappoint: Anatomy of Powers of Appointment
Clients and estate planners are not prescient. No matter how much time, thought, and care they put into drafting a set of estate planning documents events will take place—including changes in behavior, illnesses, deaths, divorces, lawsuits, bankruptcies, liabilities, and legislative changes—that were unexpected and unplanned for at the time of drafting. Leave the May 21st luncheon understanding the Texas law relating to powers of appointment and the federal tax consequences arising from powers of appointment.
